Marie T Little OAM was a founding member of the then INAS-FID Executive Committee and worked tirelessly to support sport for athletes with an intellectual impairment for 25 years. She established AUSRAPID in 1985 and continued to lobby and advocate for athletes with an intellectual impairment to be able to achieve excellence in sport and be respected and valued in our community.
Marie was also the first female Executive Board member of the International Paralympic Committee’s Executive Board in 1994 and received an Order of Australia Medal in 2006 as a pioneer in Australia and overseas for her work advocating and assisting the lives of people with an intellectual impairment through sport.
In 2013, Netball Australia named a national event the Marie Little OAM Shield in her honour.
She dedicated her life to enhancing the lives of others and through her courage, respect of humanity and strong belief that everyone should feel valued and have a chance to be connected to society, she leaves a lasting legacy in Australia and internationally.
