- World and regional Championships – Virtus: World Intellectual Impairment Sport organises world, regional and smaller competitions for all of the sports on its programme. World and regionals are held on two and four year cycles depending on the sport.
- Global Games – The Global Games are held every four years and act as the World Championships for each sport featured.
- Other competitions – Virtus also recognises other competitions where the results will go towards the world rankings. They may also be recognised as part of the development of the sport. These are know as ‘sanctioned events’.
Brisbane, Australia will host the 5th edition of the World Intellectual Impairment Sport Global Games – the world biggest event for elite athletes with intellectual impairments. Taking place a year after Australia hosts the Commonwealth Games, the event promises to be the biggest and best yet.

20.10.19 Please be aware that due to the ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong, this event has been cancelled. We are looking at opportunities to stage the event later in 2020 and will advise the membership as soon possible.
Virtus is pleased to announce that the 2020 World Cycling Championships will take place in Portugal. The event runs alongside the Virtus European Cycling Championships.
